Create 3d Digital Art for Free

Free for February AND MARCH!, 3 major programs from Daz 3d.

And no, I’m not talking about the kind of 3d with the funny glasses, I’m talking about the 3d digital art you see more and more in advertising, animations, and artistic renders. You may or may not have heard of programs like these, but if you think you might be interested, now is the time to check it out. This is legitimate software that I have used regularly, (see my header image) so I can vouch for it. You will need to create an account at Daz 3d in order to get these, so before you grab them, use the link above to the main page and find Create an Account along the top bar.

Daz Studio 4 Pro

Daz Studio 4 Pro

With this program you can create scenes, add characters, modify their appearance, change their clothes, pose them, move them about, light the scene for effect, and render your imagination visible. There are a lot of extras with the Pro version, but don’t let that scare you, the basic program itself is easy to learn. The Pro stuff will be there when you grow into it. Oh, and this Pro version also comes with a Bridge direct into Photoshop CS 4 for use with their 3d component.

Bryce 7 Pro

Bryce is a landscape creation program that allows you to create beautiful scenes, whether realistic or fantasy, or sci-fi, it’s all there for you to put together. You can also import content from Daz Studio using an internal bridge between the two programs.

Hexagon 2.5

Hexagon

One of the sweetest little modeling programs I know. Hexagon is for making objects to use in the rendering programs like Daz Studio and Bryce. It includes UV mapping and direct texturing, as well as many different tools for precision modeling work. Even if you don’t think you will ever model so much as a cube, it may still be a good idea to grab this while it’s free. you never know where inspiration might lead you…

A couple of sample images from an amateur (me):

Bryce, again an early render, in this one I used the bridge to mport the Unicorn from Daz Studio into Bryce.

I’ll be posting more about these programs at a later time, as they make up a big part of my digital art library, but for now, I just wanted to pass this on. Again the offer is only good for February. And no, I am not getting any kind of affiliate return on telling you about this, I just wanted to share the good news.

After all, free is free.

Okay you’re right, nothing is completely free, these programs rely largely on Content, so if you download them, you may find yourself wanting to buy content to use in them. Each program comes with a good sampling of content to get you started, so really, you don’t have to buy a thing. But of course, I know the people at Daz 3d are hoping that you’ll get so enthused about what you can do with it that you will want to purchase at their store. No hidden agenda, just good business sense.

And it works. Once you learn the programs, you will likely find yourself wanting more content.  I’m just saying, be forewarned…

A big surprise – an award.

As I’ve only been blogging for a couple of weeks, imagine my surprise to get this award from BUDDAHFULKAT,  a blogger with many talents, both written and artistic.

I was surprised and pleased, and touched that someone would notice my modest first attempts at blogging. Thank you, Kim, this is a special gift you gave me. It makes me feel like I’ve been welcomed into a new place.

As I understand it, this award has no rules attached to it. Which is probably a good thing, because I haven’t been reading blogs long enough to get a real idea of who I might offer it to. So I will reserve that lovely task for later, knowing that once I find my favorites out there, I’ll have plenty to choose from. I do have a few blogs that I am following, but many of them already have this or other awards. So we’ll just wait and see.

When you least expect it, who knows. It could be you…

Thank you Kim!

Eyestrain

I wish more of the free blog templates had larger text – my eyes are in bad shape, and reading small text causes an inordinate amount of strain – by mid afternoon I can barely read. I’m also looking for a different format for this and my dream blog, again to find a bigger default text, as I am not ready to go for the customization, at least not at this point. This theme, Matale, isn’t too bad, the text size is decent enough, and I like how colorful it is, but it’s actually a bit too colorful, as I want to eventually post images in this blog, and I find images work best with fewer distractions. Anyway, if it starts changing around over the next while, it’s because I’m experimenting.

I have noticed some of the newer templates do have a slightly larger text size, perhaps people are listening? That’s a good thing. Meanwhile, by the time I finish my morning mail and other things and am ready to start searching through the templates, I really can’t see very well. *sigh* Which is why it’s taking me so long (or so it seems to me) to get this and the other blog started and formatted like I want. I know I can change headers and all kinds of things, depending on which template I choose, but I don’t really have anything I want to use at the moment to replace them, and am reading through the directions and support articles, which, again, throws my eyes for a loop after awhile.

I do want to say thank you to all those working in support and on the forums – great info, I just have to hang in there. Slowly but surely I am figuring out what to look for in a template, and what it means when I read different terms in association with them – like reflexive width, blogroll, etc. Slowly but surely.

The good news is, I have ordered new glasses, expressly for the PC, so I am hoping that will help.

Meanwhile, I’ve got all the tuits I need, I just have to get my eyes in order.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Peaceful

Peaceful Buddha

What is more peaceful than to contemplate these sweet little Buddhas, sleeping and praying and contemplating.  This picture was taken by my daughter when she spent 6 weeks in Japan for a language course. Click on it to make it bigger and you will see their serene expressions. Who could feel stressed when contemplating such inner peace and harmony?

Koi Pond

Another picture from my daughter – this one of a public park and Koi pond. Just imagine sitting there, watching the light play on the water, catching sight of multi colored Koi as they swim near the surface.

What a perfect place to meditate.

Creation, Expression, and getting a round tuit

Well, I’ve had a site for a while, but it has gotten so outdated that I decided to revamp it – but one problem, I felt like I wasn’t able to express myself properly in it. And right now, that’s what I am about – expression, writing, speaking my mind. Creativity is also very important for me, but it seems to be on hold for now, for various reasons. Then this morning I got a phone call…

It was from my credit card company, asking if I had made a charge to a certain web service. It was the web service that hosts my site, and it was for $1.00. Odd. The CC company said they had reason to believe my card was compromised – apparently a number of cards had that one small charge on them, like a testing charge, to see if the card is active. They told me that they were cutting off my card now, and would send me a new one.

I did, of course, call my own number for the company to be sure, and yes, my CC was indeed blocked for good, and a new one had been issued. Bottom line is, the company that was hosting my site got this charge checking on the service, so I am wondering if that company was the one that had the leak, if someone hacked into it and got a lot of card numbers. So now I am seriously wondering if I want to continue with that site at all. Oh, it’s good for having a place to upload files, etc, but still, it got me thinking. I had just started a dream blog here at WordPress, so why not a regular blog, too, one in which I can say anything I feel like, one in which I can upload artwork if I want. Who knows, maybe even one day put up my whole site again, but here.

So here I am. As for the tuit, well, I’m sure many of you have heard about it. “I didn’t finish that because I haven’t gotten around to it.” or “Updating my site? One of these days I’ll get around to it. Well, that’s what it’s all about  – get a round tuit, and you can do anything. My site domain is tuitzone.com, and my motto for years has been, “Anything is possible when you get a round tuit.”

Will I eventually transfer my whole site to WordPress? I don’t know, I have to learn to use the tools first, so what can I say? Hopefully, one day I will get a round tuit. 🙂
